I bought this bike like 2 weeks ago and I have to say that I'm so satisfied with the product. I've driving it for almost 250 km in different terrains like paviment, ground and rocks and the performance of every single component is incredible superior than the other ones. The hydraulic disc brakes are so safety and effective and the SR Suntour suspenssion has a good performance. The Shimano Alivio 9-speed rear derailleurIn and the shifters are awesome, the power transfer is so good! In this bike everything is the best. Good Job Specialized!

I'd say everything about this bike is great except for the rear derailleur. Putting too much force down at once sometimes make the chain pop out of place. But beyond that it's a great bike. Definitely worth the money and a good beginner-mid level bike.

my first bike in 35 years....got it for exercise (which I hate) but after working off some fat, I got to enjoying the ride... handles mud, sand and is smooth on paved surfaces...I shopped around and the bike gave the most for the money of anything I looked at, and it delivered more in fun and performance than I was expecting

This bike has surpassed my expectations. I have never had a mountain bike and have not ridden a bike in years, but a few friends of mine talked me into buying a bike and going out with them. I did not want to spend the thousands of dollars that they had on a bike, but did not want to but a cheap bike that would not last, so I did some looking around and talking and went with the RockHopper this bike has my friends in amazement due to it is able to withstand the abuse I put it through trying to keep up with them. It shifts smooth and stops fast all the components work better than I expected. I would recommend this bike to anyone.

I've had this bike for a few months and I've ridden a few hundred miles. I am pleased overall with the quality. I bike longer trails (30+ miles# for endurance value to supplement marathon/ultra marathon training. I'm not a huge down-hill or super technical rider, so take my review with that in mind. The frame is rock solid and light. However, the components are hit or miss. The brakes are durable and quiet. The seat is comfortable and sturdy and the grips are very comfortable. The tires are heavy but are very grippy and responsive on rocks and hard packed trails. The forks are very heavy and should not be used for ANY hard riding #the warning label on the lowers states this#. The wheels are sturdy but the hubs have a lot of friction in the bearings. Just spin them and see. Had some shifting problems with the front derailleur where the chain got stuck between the frame and the small chain ring #this gouged the frame significantly#. Never had an issue with the rear derailleur though. Since buying the Rockhopper I've upgraded a lot: wheels, shifters, derailleurs, forks, cranks, brakes, etc. Saved 8 pounds but everything is built on the frame. You get what you pay for with the frame. I recommend this for an entry level rider or someone who is planning to upgrade the bike.

Towards the end of last season, I went biking with some friends a few times and got the MTB bug. At the time, I was using a tiny and heavy full suspension 26er that was gifted to me when i was a much shorter kid. Needless to say, I needed to upgrade if I wanted to keep up my newly-formed addiction. I started looking around for a bike that would suit my needs. Namely bigger, lighter, more stable, and useful on the hilly trails of Northern Virginia and surrounding Appalachia. The bike has seen many miles by now, and has more than excceded my expectations. The frame and 29 in. wheels on this bike will ride over anything you point it at. It climbs great, and handles its own on the way down. The brakes have held up great, and when combined with the large grippy tires, stop on a dime. The only downside to the bike I can think of (and I knew before I bought it) is the rather lackluster components, specifically the derailleurs. The shifting on mine has gotten to be a bit finiky, but thats nothing some smart upgrades cant fix. I have a feeling the stock componets will hold up strong until I NEED an upgrade. This bike has turned out to be a perfect introduction to the MTB realm, and I am more than satisfied. I would recommend this bike to anyone who is new to the sport and looking for a solid bike that will last until you can justify spending thousands more on THE bike of your dreams. If you are seasoned rider this bike may be a bit sparce on the features and component quality and I would try the Comp or Pro models.
