This thing is an absolute mountain crusher. It's allowed me to destroy my old DH times while still allowing me to compete with my cross-country and uphill times. I really can't say enough about it. The gnarlier the trail the better for me and this beast can take the beating. Love it!
I have had the opportunity to test about 10 different "all-mountain" bikes in all three wheel sizes in the past few months at world class Bootleg Canyon. The decision was close between a couple of "tweeners" until the Specialized demo van rolled into town with their fleet. The 29er Enduro immediately impressed. My mind was blown. Because I'm a working man I opted for the Enduro Comp 29. Upon purchase I made a few upgrades though. The formula brakes were swapped for shimano slx. And I went to a 35 mm stem and 800 mm bars. My LBS hooked it up, for sure... This is my ultimate bike for the gnarly terrain Bootleg has to offer.
I ordered the 29" Enduro Comp, I was very excited after reading such great reviews, however I was quite disappointed. The components were just garbage, well, I like the seat. Wish I could have returned it. I feel like its overrated, way too much hype. I sold it after 2 weeks, and lost money. Totally disappointed. Just wanted to share a different view.
Came from motorcycle racing a few years ago and bought a MTB recommended by XC friends who were 'experts'. I never felt confident to let it rip like I did on my motorcycles and thought it was just the way mountain bikes were. That is until I got my Enduro 29er. WOOOW! Eye opener, game changer, awesome beast. It's a testosterone, adrenaline and confidence producing machine. Point it to where you want to go and let loose. The nastier the trail, the more fun this bike is. Just so happens that I live around nasty, rocky, rooty trails, so I'm using it to its full potential. So it weighs a few pounds more than the average XC rig, but if you are into having serious fun and conquering nasty trails, up or down, get this bike.
So much fun that you will not want to get off of it! First thing added 3-postion command post which is a must!! Rear brake lasted about 2 hours had to keep pumping the brake to get it to hold. Dealer hooked me up with Shimano SLX brakes within a day to keep me riding, thank you! Tooth fell on the rear cassette? looks like it was never there. Again Dealer is on it! Chainrings weak bent, a tooth on 33 cranking to hard i guess. Going bigger 24/36 need more speed! Have road around 400miles on it and love every minute. Climbs great not as fast as lighter bikes but you will bomb past them on the DH. Remember PACK EXTRA FOOD cause that 10 mile ride may end up being 30 miles!
The Enduro does everything it claims to better than you'd think. Its climb ability is awesome, even with the shock engaged. Tubeless 29's give incredible terrain control and roll over. Suspension, tires, and drive train give incredible control, even at the highest speeds. I had to try to cause any slip in the shifting, and that was a washboard road at over 30 mph. The only negative about this bike is that the climb ability is so intense that the comfort is diminished a little. But one doesn't get an all-mountain bike for a comfy ride. This thing is a monster, and perfect companion for a Colorado biker lifestyle. The only reason I didn't give this bike full marks is because the hand grips and seat are minimal. I can't spend enough time on this thing! Yeehaw.
